Be a wingman and a watchman Published Dec. 13, 2011 By Megan Dunn 366th Civil Engineer Squadron Housing Office MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- The housing office has winter watchman devices that can be checked out to help prevent the possibility of pipes freezing and damaging the homes of those who will be away during the winter months. Winter watchman devices are lanterns with red lights attached to thermostats. The warning light will turn on when the temperature in the house goes below 55 degrees. These devices should be hung in a front window that can be seen from the street. If you see a red light on, notify Housing Maintenance immediately at 832-4643. This will help prevent the possibility of the pipes freezing and damaging the unit. Individuals are asked to please bring the device back to the housing office for reissue once they return home.
