The base education center here lost four civilian positions as of March 31 due to recent manpower reductions resulting from the Department of Defense's Resource Management Directive 703.

This change leaves one part-time counselor, an administrator and shifts many functions to active-duty personnel.

"The education center supports long-range Air Force goals for maintaining a high-quality force," said an education center official. "Our center enhances professional and personal development, recruitment, retention and readiness by managing administration of all education and training matters."

Formal training, civilian training and Weighted Airman's Promotion Testing will not be affected as these and other career development exams and Enlisted/Officer Professional Military Education will be accomplished by a temporary enlisted professional military education representative. However, all other exams will be suspended. This includes scholastic aptitude testing, automotive service excellence exams and licensing re-certifications for specific career fields.

Front desk customer service hours have not been established at this time and many counseling services formerly offered here will be available online. All on-base university offices will continue to provide counseling services.

The most immediate impact Gunfighters will notice will be the processing time for Tuition Assistance approval, which will now take approximately three weeks.

Community College of the Air Force graduation diplomas will be sent to squadron commanders for presentation in the near term. However, a long-term solution is in the works.
