AFAF Helps MHAFB Airmen (Part 1 of 4) Published Feb. 25, 2013 MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- The Air Force Assistance Fund is currently underway at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. The AFAF was established to provide an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to the Air Force family (active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and their dependents, including surviving spouses) in need. Below is an anonymous submitted story about how the AFAF has directly affected Gunfighters. In August of 2011, I was informed my oldest sister had a stroke. The first thing to come to my mind was how soon I could go home to see her; due to the fact that I was taking care of my mother financially and paying my own bills. Bottom Line, I could not afford to head home right away. A fellow Airman guided me to the Air Force Aid Society and they were able to help me out and send me home two days later. It was a relief and a reassuring feeling knowing I could depend on my "Air Force Family" to have my back in a time of need. (This is part one of a four part series about the AFAF assisting Gunfighters.)
