AFAF Helps MHAFB Airmen (Part 3 of 4) Published March 18, 2013 MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Below is another anonymous submission dealing with how the AFAF has assisted Gunfighters in times of great need. Last May I had to fly back home to Iowa to be the best man in my friend's wedding. I was saving money for my trip but some unexpected expenses arose. I met my future wife and she moved to Idaho in April where we got an apartment together and planned to get married when we went back home. I had to purchase a plane ticket for her due to the expenses she had while moving to Idaho and the difficulty in finding a job in Mountain Home. I had previously planned on my parents picking me up from the airport when it was just me coming back, but since I was with my fiancé, we needed to rent a car to make it easier to visit both of our families. The price of getting married was also higher than we originally anticipated. By the end of our hectic vacation, we were broke and could not even afford to put gas in our car. Rent and other bills were due and there was no way to pay them. As a last resort, I went to the Airman Family Readiness Center where I received a $750.00 no interest loan and was able to pay the money back through small monthly payments. Without this resource, my new wife and I could have been possibly evicted from our apartment. With the help of the loan received, my wife and I are now financially secure and are out of the dreaded "hole". (This is part three of a four part series on how the AFAF has assisted Gunfighters.)
