Children show off science skills Published May 15, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Malisa Lott 366 Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho -- The base primary school hosted a science fair May 9 for students in kindergarten through 4th grade. The students presented a topic, hypothesis and conclusion for their individual science experiments to a set of military judges. "It's something the students get excited about and it definitely gets their brains working," said Susan Valdez, parent-teacher participant. "Everyone loves a science project. It's fun to see the start of the project and the end result." Active-duty Gunfighters served as judges and asked the students questions allowing students an opportunity to show off their knowledge and work. "It makes the children feel special when these men and women take time out of their busy day to judge their projects," said Valdez. "The children enjoy the attention they receive." The science fair is an opportunity for kids to showcase their unique talents to parents who spend a lot of time deployed. "I think military kids are special in themselves," said Staff Sgt. Evon Pretulak, Equal Opportunity Director and science fair judge. "I think this creates a common ground." Judges like Pretulak are honored to be involved because both children and adults feel the positive effects of participating in the science fair. "I truly like events like this because it's outside the box," said Pretulak. "It's not an everyday type of opportunity, and I am humbled and honored being chosen to judge."
