MHAFB first to adopt new PAS code

On Sept. 1, 2020, a new Personnel Accounting Symbol code went into effect for the Air Staff, solidifying the reorganization of the 366th Fighter Wing. This change is part of an ongoing effort approved by Air Force Headquarters to improve organizational efficiency.

A PAS code is an eight-character code that is assigned to each unit in the Air Force. This new PAS code was a short-term accomplishment that is part of the bigger plan for the 366th FW in permanently solidifying this organizational structure.

Under the old PAS code, the wing commander was responsible for the administrative details for both the A-Staff and Wing Staff. This new PAS code will help distribute some of the administrative responsibility from the wing commander and will allow the Chief of Staff to acquire some of that responsibility and help set the A-Staff apart within the Wing.

“The new PAS code will better define us as our own unit,” said 2nd Lt. Rachael Ainsworth, 366th FW CoS Section Commander.

According to Laura Mitchell, 366th FW CoS secretary, MHAFB has the most developed A-Staff structure than any other wing, and it is the first wing with an A-Staff PAS code.

 “Previously, the A-Staff was part of the PAS code for the 366th FW,” Ainsworth said. “This means that we were considered one unit, but with the new PAS code it will be easier to define who belongs to Air Staff, thus allowing us to better administratively govern our own people.”

Under the new PAS code, the CoS will have G-Series orders which allows the cultivation of good order and enforcement of disciplinary actions within the unit.

“The new PAS code is absolutely beneficial,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Jeffrey A. Burdette, 366th FW CoS. “It is the next step in the Gunfighter’s organizational evolution. We now have a formalized structure and formal chain of command for the United States Air Force’s first Wing level A-Staff. This will help our Airmen to better identify how meaningful their work is and allow them to focus on how each and every one of them contributes to the overall mission of the 366th FW.”
