Airmen receive cookies for holiday season Published Dec. 13, 2018 By Airman Nicholas Swift 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- As part of a long-standing holiday tradition, Gunfighter spouses held a cookie drive Dec. 10, 2018, at the base housing community center. The donated cookies were collected for Airmen who are spending the holiday season in the local area instead of traveling home. Brenda Campbell, a member of the Officers’ Spouses’ Club, said the cookie drive gives Airmen a taste of home. “We recognize there are a lot of Airmen that are away from their families at this time,” Campbell said. “For a lot of people, one of the greatest Christmas traditions they celebrate with their families is Christmas cookies.” The spouses received help from several volunteers and organizations in the community. The volunteers helped with donating, collecting and bagging the cookies. “All of the local elementary schools and some of the junior highs actually made cards and decorated the bags we’re using,” said Jenny Kunkel, cookie drive volunteer and wife of Col. Joe Kunkel, 366th Fighter Wing commander. “We have about 500 of those bags.” Each bag came with a dozen cookies of a mixed variety. The first sergeants of each squadron delivered the bags to the dorm Airmen by leaving them on their door knobs. With the help of local Air Force families, members of the Mountain Home community, first sergeants, and the spouses, all 447 Airmen living in the dorms will receive a taste of home.
