The Airman & Family Readiness Center hosted a job fair, September 25, 2018, at Gunfighters (the base club) for community members to explore various employment opportunities.

Twenty-three local and statewide companies gathered to share information on employment opportunities with the main focus on military spouses. Additionally, the companies offered employment information to military members, retirees and civilians.

“I think that this job fair will help families know that we care,” said Karrin Gantt, A&FRC transition and employment counsellor. “We help spouses because we know that they’re leaving their home to come here. We want them to feel immersed into the community, to feel like they’re at home and relieve that stress of financial burden.”

Out of the 75 attendees, 46 participants were job seekers and 52 percent of the job seekers were military spouses.

Ashley Feldbruegge, a Mountain Home AFB spouse, attended the event for hiring and employment information.

“It’s nice to see who’s interested in hiring military personnel and spouses, and it’s also interesting to talk to people,” Feldbruegge said. “Even if you didn’t find a job, there’s also employers from finance and technology companies that provide a good resource of information that someone could benefit from.”

Feldbruegge believes that the job fair can be beneficial for more than just Airmen and their families.

“I think if the word gets out and more employers realize that this is a good resource to find people who want to work, I feel like those companies would really benefit,” Feldbruegge said. “Military spouses and retirees are used to hard work and commitment.”

Both Gantt and Feldbruegge recommend that more job seekers and employers attend next year’s fair.

“To any spouse who is really curious about getting back to work; if you want to get out there and talk to people, this job fair is the place to do it,” Feldbruegge said.
