Col. Joe Kunkel, 366th Fighter Wing commander, hosted his third commander’s call on June 6, where he highlighted how to make the wing more effective by expanding on his current wing priorities.

During Kunkel’s second commander’s call, he spoke on enhancing readiness, building leaders, taking care of Airmen and their families and developing trust among mission focused Airmen.

“In Mid-April beginning of May I had a conference with different commanders and senior 0-6’s and some chiefs, we looked at where we were, where we were going and what we needed to do and why,” Kunkel said. “This brief is what we decided the wing needed to do.”

To help continue making 2018 a successful year, he a set five strategic events to assist in his current priorities.

“With accomplishing these upcoming events; new Wing experimental structure, Gunfighter Skies Airshow, summer change of commands, preparation for deployments and enhanced readiness for Global Response Force this will improve our overall wing effectiveness,” Kunkel said.

Even with the recent completion of the Wing’s recent group inactivation ceremony in May and the Gunfighter Skies Airshow to kick off the month of June, Kunkel believes that with the new Wing structure comes risk and opportunities for strong leadership to help achieve the mission and build community relationships.

“These focus areas and objectives provide my direction for the wing,” Kunkel said. “They are not intended to restrict your ability to lead, but rather direct your efforts where they will provide synergistic gains.”

Kunkel stated, he encourages Gunfighters at all levels to take advantage of this opportunity to institute positive change.
