Mountain Home AFB welcomes new historian Published March 5, 2018 By Airman 1st Class Alaysia Berry 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- From Army Air Base, Mountain Home in 1941; Mountain Home Army Air Field in 1943; and now as Mountain Home Air Force Base; this base has endured many changes throughout the years. Mountain Home AFB has a rich military and community history, and the preservation of that history requires the expertise of an experienced historian. Chrissie Reilly, Mountain Home AFB's new historian, said she is excited and ready for the daunting challenge of preserving the wing's heritage.Before arriving to Mountain Home AFB, she worked for the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics-Command and for the Defense Logistics Agency as both the agency's historian and as a data analyst for the Office of Inspector General. As a historian, her primary duty consists of writing a comprehensive history of the 366th Fighter Wing. In addition to her passion on being Mountain Home AFB's new historian, Reilly is also a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County"My favorite part of being a historian is being able to connect the heritage of an organization like the 366th Fighter Wing to its current mission," Reilly said. "We can learn a lot by examining our shared past."When she's not writing the base's official history, she maintains the base's official archive, provides heritage support for various historical displays, and provides information to the commander so they can make more knowledgeable decisions based on historical events. Reilly wants to ensure her tenure here as the historian will carry on the proud legacy of the wing. "I am an advocate for history," Reilly said. "As a historian here at Mountain Home AFB, I look forward to preserving its intangible culture."
