MXG edges CES in Championship Game Published Feb. 2, 2017 By A1C Chester Mientkiewicz 366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- The Maintenance Group played the Civil Engineer Squadron in the Mountain Home Air Force Base Intramural Basketball Championship game Jan. 30, 2017 at the Gunfighter Fitness Center. The evenly talented match showcased the Gunfighters top ballers. Both teams entered the night with a 7-2 record. MXG was determined to win this year after losing to Logistics Readiness Squadron in last year's championship. "Going into the game I had all the confidence in the world," said Brandon Taylor, MXG point guard. CES was awarded the one seed in the playoffs after their regular season victory over MXG in December. "The first time we played, it was real close, Taylor said." Kyle Durbin, CES point guard, battled a bloody nose throughout the second half while keeping his team in the game. "This performance showed our resiliency in the way we fought," Taylor said. "I told our team 'Just keep fighting and we'll come out on top.'" CES lead 23-21 at half time. MXG outscored CES by 11 points in the second half to pull out the 51-42 victory. "All the credit goes to my teammates. They left it all out there and it showed," Taylor said. Taylor was MXG's top scorer with 14 points while Kyle Durbin and Tyler Ford led CES with 13 points apiece. "It didn't hit me that we won until the final buzzer sounded," Taylor said.
