MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BSAE, Idaho -- The 366th Fighter Wing held the wing change of command ceremony July 2, 2019, at Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Col. Joe Kunkel relinquished command to Col. Richard Goodman.

Kunkel served as the 366th FW commander for two years and will become the vice director of operations on the joint staff at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

Goodman served as the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing vice commander, Southwest Asia, before his assignment here.

“He is absolutely ready for this,” Kunkel said. “He and his wife Katie are perfect fit for this command team.”

Goodman is a command pilot with more than 3,500 flying hours between the F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15SG, F-16C/D Fighting Falcon, and various training aircraft. This is his second time stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base; in 2013, he was the director of operations for the 428th Fighter Squadron and in 2014 he served as the 389th Fighter Squadron commander.

“There’s something special about being a Gunfighter and being a part of the Mountain Home community,” Goodman said. “My family and I are really excited to be here.”

He explained he looks to capitalize on enhancing readiness, building leaders, taking care of Airmen and families and building trust.

“My focus is to further develop an expeditionary minded war-fighting team,” Goodman said. “I want to find ways to make it better, improve the squadrons and increase lethality.”

Although Goodman expects Gunfighters to continue working hard, he wants them to take the time to focus on taking care of their families as well.

“Be an expert, but be humble, and strive to be the best version of yourself,” Goodman said. “What you do matters, you matter and your families matter.”

The 366th FW welcomed Goodman as he took command and leads the Gunfighters into the wild blue yonder.

“I look forward to working with you and working for you,” Goodman said.
