MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Senior leaders with the 366th Contracting Squadron recently selected the following individual as their warrior of the week. The recognition program highlights members of the 366th Fighter Wing who make significant contributions to their unit and the base.

Airman 1st Class Phillip Manwaring

Hobbies: Working out at the base fitness center, target shooting, sketching, spending time with my labrador retriever, working on vehicles and volunteering on base and in the community

What service does Phillip Manwaring provide to the Gunfighters? As a contract Administrator, I perform and administer contracting functions for commodities and small services using simplified acquisition procedures, negotiations and other approved methods in support of all base organizations. I advise government and contractor personnel on contracting related issues, perform market research, determine applicability of contract clauses and special provisions and conducts site visits to determine adequacy of contractor compliance and customer satisfaction. I always seek out competition to make sure we save taxpayer dollars while providing our customers with what they need.

Most memorable Air Force moment? My most memorable Air Force moment is graduation from Basic Military Training. Most of my family lives in San Antonio, and a lot of people came out to show their support. With both my grandpas retiring after more than 20 years in the Air Force, they were very proud I joined.

Interesting personal fact: I was the star in a series of commercials as a kid.

Why does Phillip Manwaring deserve to be a warrior of the week? Manwaring deserves to be a warrior of the week due to his outstanding contribution to the squadron over the last week. These contributions include, single-handedly filling the void of a six personnel flight while managing 25 commodity contracts worth $1.1 million, supporting six other base organizations and in turn was coined by Col. Kiser. He further expedited a high visibility communications requirement valued at $85,000, saving the government $55,000 in excess cost. Finally, he procured six medical logistics contacts worth $500,000 of supplies and services, which assisted in maintaining 24 hour operations for the 366th Medical Group readiness. Manwaring is a true force multiplier and deserves the recognition as the "Warrior of the Week."
