MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho --
We currently have more than 500 Airmen in deployed locations all over the world. We know what it takes to fly, fight and win.
When the call comes to defend our nation we respond effectively and decisively without hesitation. As Gunfighters, we have a proud legacy dating back to World War II. More recently we brought combat airpower to the fight in Iraq, Afghanistan and Southwest Asia.
We have proven ourselves in real-world battles and now we will prove our ability to survive and operate. To test our ability to deploy and execute our wartime mission, we are conducting an Operational Readiness Inspection from April 30 to May 7, 2013.
The ORI will be challenging but we will face it and conquer it as we do with every challenge set before us. This is why we chose "You can't stop us!" as our theme.
To prepare, we are conducting operational readiness exercises which will mirror what we are being asked to do in a wartime tasking.
Real-world scenarios will test our ability to survive and continue operating under combat conditions with simulated conventional, chemical or biological attacks. Every unit and every Gunfighter with a wartime or contingency mission is expected to participate.
The ORE's are broken up into three phases:
· The first "Crawl" phase from now through September to familiarize our units with inspection reports, review lessons learned from other bases which have recently experienced ORI's and practice part task training.
· The second "Walk" phase from September to January will kick off our first exercises to test unit readiness and gauge our performance to make needed improvements and adjustments.
· Finally, the last "Run" phase from February to April will include a series of full speed exercises, final tune-ups and a full dress rehearsal.
To support this, we created an exclusive webpage devoted to the ORI which provides a one-stop shop for articles, graphics, videos and tips at http://newpreview.afnews.af.mil/mountainhome/library/operationalreadinessinspection.asp
It is vital for you to have the most current information to stay operationally ready in your duty sections and at home. This page will link to my Commander's Corner, training videos for Commander's Calls and unit training along with printable posters to highlight priority items such as mobility bags, MOPP gear and SABC.
I am confident that we will train as we have always fought with the highest standards of performance and accountability. Let's meet our Gunfighter standard, earn an "Outstanding" rating and continue to strive for excellence in all we do.
Our legacy is filled with heroes who excelled at accomplishing the mission, and there are Gunfighters deployed currently accomplishing the mission. Let's honor their legacy and ours by showing we've been there, we've done that and we're ready to prove that no matter the challenge, you can't stop us!
