Scott Grover, 366th Maintenance Group commander, and members of the base community participated in a cake cutting and recognition ceremony during International Women’s Day March 8th. “This event is a great day to celebrate those current and past who have made big waves in their careers and other individuals lives,” said Jean Suprise, Army and Air Force Exchange Service human resource technician. Airmen from different backgrounds were also given the opportunity to express their thoughts on their female mentors, inspirations and how they became who they are today because of their influences. “My family continues to inspire me to continue to support others on a daily basis,” said Senior Master Sgt. Makeba Liebert, 366th Equipment Maintenance Squadron first sergeant. “Without that I wouldn’t Grover also highlighted how female figures have played a huge part in his life. “This observance is very near and dear to my heart,” Grover said. “As a 19 year old cadet, my mentor really set the bar for me and my Air Force career. She is now the commandant at the Air Force Academy.”Grover said after graduating from the academy, his first four supervisors on active duty were female, and set a very deep impression on what it meant for him to be a maintenance officer specifically and an officer in general. “My wife is a maintenance officer and although we are not stationed together right now I’ve seen her career grow since she was a brand new lieutenant and growing up in the ranks to a lieutenant colonel in a very male-dominated work force just by numbers,” Grover said. “She is my rock, she is my example, and not only an awesome maintenance officer but a great mother.”
