Base’s last F-16s leave
MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- In a symbolic goodbye to the base, the 389th Fighter Squadron’s last five F-16s soar over the base’s flightline for the last time as they marked the completion of a five-month plan to move the these jets to McEntire Air National Guard Base, S.C., and Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The move, outlined in the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure recommendations, consolidates the service’s F-15 and F-16 fighter aircraft at selected bases. MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- One of the base’s last five F-16s roars off the base’s flightline bound for its new assignment at McEntire Air National Guard Base, S.C., March 29. It marked the last time Mountain Home called itself home to these F-16s. The departure completed a five-month plan to move these jets as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission’s recommendations.
