Rapid Respiratory Testing Available at the 366th Medical Group

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho --

The 366^th Medical Group launched two in-house test kits to rapidly diagnose and treat respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus.

BioFire COVID-19 and BioFire Respiratory 2.1 panels can provide rapid and reliable results for 22 types of bacteria and viruses. This form of rapid testing will allow the provider to identify the illness and create an effective treatment plan for patients of all ages.

Test results are available in less than 24 hours meaning patients will be able to leave quarantine sooner. This allows service members to return to the mission faster.

“The BioFire is fast, robust, easy to use and most importantly, cuts down our turnaround time drastically,” said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Cristain Garcia, 452^nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron medical laboratory technician.
